Isabella Van Wagener is not generally recognized unless we know her more famous name, Sojourner Truth. When she died on November 26, 1883, in Battle Creek, Michigan, she had become world-famous for her evangelism and women’s rights efforts. She had a quick tongue and once told a man arguing that women had no role in the church: “And how came Jesus into the world? Through God who created Him and the woman who bore him. Man, where was your part?”
