In the 1930s, Germany gained several unexpected allies as it fell to Nazi influence. One of these strange allies was Father Charles Coughlin from Michigan. Coughlin had a popular national radio show, and he began as a supporter of FDR. However, as the Nazis continued to rise to power in Germany, he began to support them, ranting against Jews and Communists on his show. On May 1, 1942, Archbishop Edward Mooney warned Coughlin and his National Union for Socila Justice to end their pro-Nazi movement or find himsel defrocked
