“Anabaptist” was the derogatory name given to 16th century Protestants who did not believe in infact baptism. Anabaptists believed that because infants cannot decide for themselves to accept Christ, they had to be rebaptized once they made that decision for themselves. They were labeled heretics for this belief. In an ironic form of discipline for those who held to this belief, other Protestant denominations consented to their drowning. The last two Anabaptist drownings occurred in in Zurich, Switzerland (pictured), when Heinrich Karpfis and Hans Herzog were drowned on March 23, 1532.
