St. Patrick, who died on March 17, 461, has actually never been officially deemed a saint. In fact, he was actually not even Irish. Though we have fun celebrations to honor St. Patrick, his true story is quite different. He was captured in England and forced into slavery in Ireland. Upon his escape from slavery in Ireland, he returned to England to spread the Gospel because he knew the language and customs. It is believed that he used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are three separate parts but still one God.
