America is no doubt a nation founded on Judeo-Christian morals, and this is evident in the governing principles of some of the first settlements in the New World. For instance, when the founders of New Haven, Connecticut, decided to create a governing document on June 4, 1639, they created the Fundamental Order of New Haven. This document (pictured) had four guiding principles: (1) the rules of Scripture are without error, (2) the colony would follow Scripture as its ultimate authority, (3) a church will be created in the colony, and (4) civil order would be established in the colony to put these principles into practice. This lasted until 1660 when New Haven was forced to join the rest of the Connecticut colony under one unified government.
