Lettie “L.B.” Cowman and her husband Charles were missionaries to Japan where they eventually formed the Oriental Mission Society. They first landed in Japan on February 22, 1901, and thus began a difficult tenure for Lettie and her husband. She searched for books and journals by Christian authors who had experienced similar trials in their ministry. Lettie ultimately equated her relationship with Christ to a stream that runs through a desert because He was her Sustainer through trials and tribulations. She authored a devotional book that she appropriately titled Streams in the Desert, which you can find for free at Crosswalk.com.
