February 21, 1945 – Eric Liddell Dies

Olympic Athlete Eric Liddell made worldwide news when he refused to run on a Sunday. He believed that by running on a Sunday he would be dishonoring the Sabbath day and breaking one of the Ten Commandments. As depicted in the Oscar-winning movie Chariots of Fire, he would go on to set a record in the 400 meters, but more significantly, after his days of running were over, he followed his parents’ footsteps and became a missionary to China. Because of this, he was placed in a concentration camp where he died on February 21, 1945. Despite his death, he managed to show his fellow camp members what it looked like to live for Christ no matter the circumstances.
