One lesser-known leader of the Protestant Reformation was Philipp Melanchthon. Like Martin Luther, he was a professor at the University of Wittenberg and is credited with teaching Luther Greek and encouraging him to translate the Bible into German. He also played a key role in ending division among Protestants after Luther’s death. He also authored the great Augsburg Confession in 1530. Melanchthon died on April 19, 1560.
